Human dignity: We believe in the worth and dignity of every human being. We respect the people we serve and those that help us in this effort and recognize them as our greatest resource.

Faith in action: We believe that faith is lived through action. Building on our Christian foundation, we serve and work with people of all faiths and beliefs in a spirit of justice and compassion. 

Diversity and Inclusiveness: We believe there is a role for everyone committed to our vision, mission and values and we seek to enrich our organization through diversity.



Habitat for Humanity GTA is an affilate of Habitat for Humanity Canada. The first Habitat home was built in Canada in 1985. Habitat Canada has grown to 65 affiliates in all provinces and territories.

In 1976, the Habitat for Humanity movement began in Americus, Georgia. Since its inception, Habitat for Humanity International has built, rehabilitated, repaired or improved more than 600,000 houses worldwide - providing shelter for more than 3 million people.



Brief history of each legacy affiliate:

Brampton CaledonJanet Nicholls was the founder of Habitat for Humanity Brampton which started at the kitchen table in her home. Due to her dogged determination, the organization finally received its international charter in early 2000. Through her efforts and direction, Habitat Brampton completed its first build in July 2004.


Toronto: Founded in 1988, Habitat for Humanity Toronto started as a local grassroots organization that with the help of dedicated volunteers and corporate donors built safe, decent and affordable homes for local low-income families.


York Region: Led by a group of very dedicated volunteers, Habitat for Humanity York Region (Habitat York) was started in 2001 as a local grassroots organization. With this group of dedicated volunteers and the very generous support of our community, corporate donors and sponsors, our affiliate has built an average of 1-2 homes per year.
