LOCATION: Brampton Office (268 Rutherford Road South, Unit #5) with occasional travel between offices in Toronto and York Region

STATUS: Permanent Full Time

HOURS: Standard Hours with evenings and weekends as required

Habitat for Humanity GTA is looking for an energetic and dynamic Outreach and Support Coordinator to join our Family Services team. Reporting to the Director, Family Services, this role plays a key part in the success of finding and supporting eligible families for the Habitat GTA homeowner program.  In addition the role will provide a variety of ongoing support needs to current Habitat homeowners in the Brampton-Caledon and York Regions. The position will be based out of Brampton with some travel to York region as required.


Organization Summary:


Habitat for Humanity GTA is a non-profit housing organization working with communities to build homes for working, low-income families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing. By offering zero down payment, no-interest mortgages capped at 30 percent of a family’s income, Habitat for Humanity GTA offers families a hand up, empowering them to achieve stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership, so that they can build a better life/a path out of poverty. With the support of donors and volunteers, we build homes in Brampton, Caledon, Toronto, and York Region, serving two-thirds of the GTA.


Since 1988, Habitat GTA has built more than 300 homes in partnership with families. Habitat GTA is one of more than 1,400 Habitat for Humanity affiliates worldwide sharing a common vision and purpose. Habitat for Humanity GTA also operates 10 Habitat ReStore home improvement retail stores across the GTA, which sell donated, new and gently-used home furnishing and renovation materials at a fraction of the original price. ReStore proceeds directly support building Habitat homes. ReStore also helps the environment, by diverting thousands of tons of household materials from landfill.


Job Purpose:


Reporting to the Director, Family Services, Family Services Coordinator Outreach and Support will work closely with Habitat GTA staff, volunteers and Partner Families and be responsible for achieving outreach, providing homeowner support and achieving Family Services goals in the GTA. The position will work directly with community partners and volunteer selection committee members in support of finding and supporting families to be part of Habitat GTA’s homeownership program.


Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Along with the Family Intake Manager create and implement an annual outreach plan
  • Be responsible for achieving outreach and Family Service goals in the GTA
  • Maintain Family outreach collateral
  • Ensure the accuracy of brochures, posters, ads, and other family outreach material, including translation, as required
  • Coordinate mailings with various organizations in the GTA to promote Habitat GTA homeownership program
  • Coordinate the distribution and placement of posters, and ads in communities and neighbourhoods
  • Develop and maintain relationships with social and community service agencies: solicit and conduct presentations to agency staff; establish strategic partnerships which will expand outreach in our target neighbourhoods
  • Coordinate a minimum of 5 intake presentations per month (daytime and evening)
  • Support the creation and maintenance of content on the Habitat website (intake video, application and guide, intake session listings, other content as required)
  • Recruit and train volunteers to assist with intake and outreach presentations in the community
  • Respond to all inquiries from potential applicants about the housing program




Provide ongoing support to homeowner partner families and those transitioning to homeownership

  • Manage Sweat Equity Program; ensure meaningful partner family engagement and monitor successful completion of required hours
  • Manage Homeowner Education Program; support in designing, developing and delivering education materials and workshops
  • Act as department support/lead for all events involving partner families; engage partner families in public awareness & media initiatives
  • Recruit and provide leadership to several key department volunteers, including external volunteer groups
  • Manage department database to ensure record accuracy including transfer of information
  • Take lead on partner family profiles and media requests




  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Exemplary social and community engagement skills, with a customer service focus and an ability to connect with others and establish and maintain strong relationships
  • Highly organized, ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and problem solving skills
  • Proactive team player with both staff and volunteers but able to perform well independently
  • Effective at preparing and delivering presentations
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Exceptional relationship management skills
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point


Flexibility for attendance at evening or weekend workshops and additional events outside of regular workday


The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of two-three years’ experience with outreach and program support
  • University or college degree in a related field or a combination of education and experience
  • Experience in non-profit organizations, and marketing/communications considered an asset
  • Class G driver’s license
