We are currently seeking a friendly and energetic individual to join our Construction team as a Site Volunteer Coordinator. Reporting to the VP, Construction, and working collaboratively with the Volunteer Services team, the successful candidate is responsible for ensuring that our build sites have sufficient volunteers and Crew Leaders to complete the daily scheduled tasks, to create a safe and healthy environment for all, and to ensure a fun and productive environment for volunteers.


As a Site Volunteer Coordinator, you will be required to travel between our multiple build sites located within the Brampton/Caledon, Toronto and York Region, therefore, if you are searching for a predictable 9-5 position, then this won’t be the right job for you.


Organization Summary:

Habitat for Humanity GTA is a non-profit housing organization working with communities to build homes for working, low-income families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing. By offering zero down payment, no-interest mortgages capped at 30 percent of a family’s income, Habitat for Humanity GTA offers families a hand up, empowering them to achieve stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership, so that they can build a better life/a path out of poverty. With the support of donors and volunteers, we build homes in Brampton, Caledon, Toronto, and York Region, serving two-thirds of the GTA.


Since 1988, Habitat GTA has built more than 300 homes in partnership with families. Habitat GTA is one of more than 1,400 Habitat for Humanity affiliates worldwide sharing a common vision and purpose. Habitat for Humanity GTA operates three regional offices, multiple build sites, and 10 Habitat ReStore home improvement retail stores across the GTA, which sell donated, new and gently-used home furnishing and renovation materials at a fraction of the original price. ReStore proceeds directly support building Habitat homes. ReStore also helps the environment, by diverting thousands of tons of household materials from landfill.



  • Travel between the Brampton/Caledon, York Region and Toronto build sites to ensure all sites have sufficient volunteers and Crew Leaders to complete daily scheduled tasks and to organize volunteers for their day on site
  • Work closely with the VP Construction and Site Supervisor to help assign and manage daily tasks
  • Be the point of contact for all volunteers, individuals and other non-profits, including those participating in the Habitat Build Day Program
  • Work collaboratively with Fund Development and Volunteer Services to ensure positive group and individual experiences
  • Provide a communication link between volunteers, Crew Leaders and site personnel with the rest of the organization
  • Follow all site protocols around sign-in, waivers, tracking etc.
  • Aid in organizing and keeping the build site office clean and free of debris, and assist in answering incoming phone calls and scheduling volunteers.
  • Promote and ensure compliance with Habitat GTA health and safety policies
  • Responsible for ensuring positive individual and group volunteer experiences on the build site, including photographs, recognition, retention and event coordination
  • Ensure sufficient build site leadership coverage
  • Verify that lunch and snacks are organized and ensure they are available to Volunteers at appropriate times.
  • Conduct volunteer surveys on site daily
  • Form volunteer relationships in the surrounding community and actively collaborate with Volunteer Services
  • Reach out to established volunteers and seek new volunteers using various marketing tools, including volunteer databases, e-mail letters, and local community outreach
  • Attend and participate in Volunteer Services events and Construction team meetings when requested.
  • Assist in the development of build specific recruitment campaigns including the search for Crew Leaders.
  • Coordinate and conduct Crew Leader training program with Site Supervisor once per month on site.
  • Monitor, update and utilize the online schedule on a daily basis and send out communication emails to build volunteers regularly
  • Work with site supervisor to complete daily log prior to the end of day including a section from the build site volunteer coordinator.
  • Work towards ensuring the onsite volunteer experience is at its max and communicate feedback to VP Construction and Volunteer Engagement Manager as soon as possible.
  • Responsible for day to day activities regarding the Crew & Crew Leader Program
  • Complete reporting requirements for VP, Construction and Volunteer Services
  • Keep Build Site Volunteer Coordinator Manual current and up to date
  • First Aid as required on Build Site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Friendly, positive can-do attitude
  • Flexible and adaptable self-starter
  • Team building / event experience an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with Habitat GTA staff members and volunteers
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Understanding of Habitat GTA philosophy and the desire to promote it.
  • Require standard First Aid with CPR level A Certificate
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Ability to work with a team and independently
  • Excellent research and organizational skills
  • Comfortable making contacts via phone calls and in person
  • Previous experience in construction process/phases, recruiting, training and scheduling an asset, not mandatory.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence and access to own vehicle
