Status: 7-week, Full-Time Summer Student Position (30 hours per week)Expected Start Date: July 3, 2017

Organization Summary:

Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area   (GTA) is a non-profit housing organization that mobilizes volunteers and   community partners to work with families to help them build a brighter future   and break the cycle of poverty through affordable homeownership. Habitat GTA   also operates a retail enterprise called ReStore, which sells new and   gently-used home furnishing and renovation materials at great prices. ReStore   proceeds support our mission to help   working, low-income families build a brighter future through affordable home   ownership. ReStore operates 10 locations across the GTA.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist the Vice President, Regional Development in ensuring Habitat GTA’s gift-in-kind pipeline continues to supply critical building materials at low or no cost to control the costs of home construction
  • Prospecting for potential Gift-in-Kind donors and tracking Gift-in-Kind acquisition efforts in Habitat GTA’s database
  • Assist staff in soliciting prospective donors via mail and telephone
  • Assist in stewarding Gift-in-Kind donors and maintaining vendor relationships, including build site visits
  • Assist with preparing and delivering presentations to build awareness of Habitat GTA’s Gift-in-Kind program among select communities


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Secondary or Post-secondary program, a focus or interest in office administration, fundraising, events and/or customer service is preferred.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with a strong work ethic.
  • Donor-oriented attitude and ability to interact tactfully.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.     
  • Well-developed communication and relationship building skills.
  • Self-starter who is able to work both independently and function well within a team.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, mail mergers) and online search engines.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting on a regular basis in order to assist with event set-up and tear down, packing vehicles, setting up tables and chairs, participating on build sites etc.
  • Full Driver’s Licence is considered an asset.


To be eligible for this position, applicants must:

  • be  between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and      intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;     
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection      has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial  or territorial legislation and regulations.
