Position Title: Health and Safety Assistant

Status: 7-week, Full-Time Summer Student Position (30 hours per week)

Expected Start Date: July 3, 2017

Location: 268 Rutherford Road South, Unit #5, Brampton, ON L6W 3N3


Organization Summary:

Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is a non-profit housing organization that mobilizes volunteers and community partners to work with families to help them build a brighter future and break the cycle of poverty through affordable homeownership. Habitat GTA also operates a retail enterprise called ReStore, which sells new and gently-used home furnishing and renovation materials at great prices. ReStore  proceeds support our mission to help working, low-income families build a brighter future through affordable home ownership. ReStore operates 10 locations across the GTA.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyses safety reports from all sites
  • Work on key safety indicators based on the reports
  • Incident, near miss and safety suggestion tracking and reporting
  • Participate on workplace inspections and visits.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Post-secondary program specializing in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, mail mergers) and online search engines.
  • Full Driver’s Licence is considered an asset.


To be eligible for this position, applicants must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and      intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;     
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection      has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2;  and,
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
