Dalton Road Welcome Home Ceremony

Dalton Road

We broke ground at Dalton Road in the spring of 2019—and what a time it’s been since then. We’ve seen the build site close and then open again. We’ve seen our supporters from every corner, from donors, to volunteers, to government partners, band together to make this community a reality.

On July 14th, we celebrated the six newest Habitat homeowners who moved in at Dalton Road, while highlighting the hard work, commitment and generosity of so many, that went into bringing this community to life. Led by Habitat for Humanity GTA CEO Ene Underwood, speakers at the Welcome Home included:

Valerie Shuttleworth, Board Member, Habitat for Humanity GTA
Adam Vaughan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister responsible for CMHC | Member of Parliament Spadina/Fort-York
Mayor of Georgina, Her Worship, Mayor Margaret Quirk
Frank Sebo, Councillor Ward 4 | Town of Georgina
His Worship, Mayor John Tory
Gaylen Duncan, Country Operating Officer, Bank of America Merrill Lynch
Julia Deans, President & CEO, Habitat for Humanity Canada
Dorindo Gravina, Build Site Supervisor, Habitat for Humanity GTA
Greer Atkinson, Habitat for Humanity GTA

The event also featured a virtual home tour from the Mejia Family.

A small group of Habitat for Humanity GTA staff and crew leaders met with the families onsite at Dalton Road later in the evening to dedicate the keys to the 6 families who have moved in. We’re so happy these families will be able to enjoy the summer season in their new homes.

The Habitat community we’ve built here and in the surrounding neighborhoods is a testament to what is possible when we come together. This may be the end of the physical building, but the community building is just beginning. The real power of a Habitat home exists beyond the build. When we build housing alongside a family and volunteers, a stronger community is born. We transform neighbourhoods and increase the economic vitality of the GTA.
