Affordable housing remains one of the most critical issues facing citizens in Toronto and across the GTA. At Habitat for Humanity GTA, we’re committed to finding new and innovative ways to address the affordable housing shortage. We see non-profit and private sector partnerships, supported by sound governmental policy, as the way forward. DiamondCorp and Kilmer Group have a proven track record of helping to strengthen Toronto’s affordable housing sector, and in recognition of the rising need for sustainable solutions, they have amped up their work over the past 10 years. Their support has enabled us to help 100 Habitat homeowner families realize the strength, stability, and self-reliance of affordable homeownership. At the 2020 BILD Chair’s Dinner, we were pleased to present them with the inaugural Developer for Humanity Award.
The Developer for Humanity Award winner is chosen based on a developer’s commitment to advancing our mission through contributions of affordable units, sharing of knowledge & experience, and capacity building. Like us, DiamondCorp and Kilmer Group believe that the building of inclusive communities is most successful when the non-profit and private sectors band together. They have provided a shining example of how developers can partner with us to find creative housing solutions that increase the vibrancy and livability of the GTA.
The Habitat Home is changing. Alongside our volunteers, we’re building new multi-unit Habitat communities of stacked townhomes, and through partnering with developers, we’re delivering homeownership in mid and high-rise condo units, increasing the inclusivity of key communities in the regions we serve.
Habitat for Humanity GTA salutes DiamondCorp and Kilmer Group for helping strengthen Toronto’s affordable housing sector. We look forward to continuing our partnership and collaborating with Toronto’s city builders to create strong communities and brighter futures for families across the GTA.
