Over the last 8 years partnering with Habitat for Humanity GTA, Manulife has generously donated over $1.5 million in donations, and sent hundreds of their employees to volunteer building Habitat homes for families.
Now with over 13 home dedication ceremonies under their tool belt, Manulife understands what a safe, decent, affordable home means to Habitat homeowners like the Sulaiman family.
The Sulaiman’s family apartment had many challenges. They lived on the 6th floor, and over the years, the elevators often broke down, forcing their family to climb six flights of stairs to get into their home. Because of her heart condition, improving accessibility for Sajiidan, the mother of the family, became a necessity.
I couldn’t get up to my own place at times. My daughters would have to help me get up the stairs and into my home.
When Sajidan learned that her family was going to receive a 4-bedroom Habitat home thanks to Manulife, she was overjoyed! She is proud of her daughters’ accomplishments, and feels relieved to finally be able to provide her daughters with their own bedroom, and space to study as they pursue their university education.
