New Supporters Take a Magical Holiday Tradition to New Heights

Christmas event ft Ene and John Tory

‘Twas the sweetest build site in town! Thanks to the support of three new partners – the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation (CST), DoorDash, and How to Cake It – our 14th annual Habitat for Humanity GTA Gingerbread Build was a magical, memorable event for all!

Habitat GTA launched Gingerbread Build fourteen years ago and since then this holiday favourite keeps growing in popularity. For the first time, our Gingerbread Build event was held in the Rotunda at Toronto’s City Hall with more than 450 children of all ages celebrating the holiday season while helping low-income families to realize their dream of an affordable ‘Habitat sweet home’.

This was the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation’s  first year as Presenting Sponsor of Gingerbread Build, with over a dozen employees on site participating including President and CEO Sherry MacDonald. “I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a great event that so closely aligns with our own mission of helping all families make post-secondary education possible.  It’s so important for us to be able to get into the communities and speak with families about education savings programs like the Canada Learning Bond. Working with partners like Habitat allows us to make those connections.”

Also new to Gingerbread Build this year was our Delivery Sponsor, DoorDash who provided delivery service for our gourmet gingerbread house kits to families across the city.

For the first time ever, master cake artist and You Tube sensation, Yolanda Gampp of How to Cake It shared her baking expertise with participants at a special How To Cake It YouTube Studio session dedicated to Gingerbread Build on November 26th.

Thanks to overwhelming demand, we sold out of kits before December 1st! A big thank you to everyone who participated in Gingerbread Build and best wishes for a very happy holiday season!

If you would still like to help Habitat families realize their dream of a Habitat Sweet Home this year, we welcome your gifts of caring throughout the holiday season!
