Home dedication ceremonies for families in Scarborough and Caledon

Ene at ceremony for families in Scarborough and Caledon

136 Pinery Trail Dedication

13 families received keys to their new Habitat for Humanity GTA homes at our largest build project to date in Scarborough on October 24, 2017.

Over 200 community members joined us to welcome our partner families into their new Habitat homes. We were proud to be joined by MPP Peter Milczyn, Minister of Housing and the Minister responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy, volunteers that helped build the homes, and donors and community members who make our work possible.

The 136 Pinery Trail home dedication ceremony marked an important moment in our organization’s history, as we celebrated homeownership for the first 13 families moving into the first block of homes at our largest build project to date, a 50-unit stacked townhome development in Scarborough. The second block (15 homes) and third block (20 homes) will be completed and ready for families to move into in 2018 and 2019.

The families that moved into these first 13 homes have been living in unaffordable, unstable, and unsafe living situations. They have worked hard to complete 500 volunteer hours of “sweat equity” in lieu of a cash down payment on their homes, and begin to take on the responsibility of a Habitat for Humanity mortgage.

Kennedy Road Dedication

4 families move into their new Habitat for Humanity GTA home in time for the holidays on December 12, 2017.

We were proud to be joined by members of the Caledon community braving the cold for a home dedication ceremony at our first homebuilding project in the Town of Caledon. The ceremony brought together special guests, including His Worship Mayor Allan Thompson, Mayor of the Town of Caledon, and the first 4 Habitat homeowner families that were able to call these houses “home” in time for the holidays. The remaining 6 homes at our Kennedy Rd. build will be completed and ready for families to move into in summer 2018.
