Safety Program Sponsors Make Fire Safety at Home a Focus

Habitat GTA’s Safety Program Sponsors, Enbridge Gas Distribution (sponsor since 2013), First Alert and CSA, have provided tremendous support to Habitat GTA on our build sites, in our ReStores and in our offices as part of this program, which has enabled Habitat GTA to really up its game when managing safety in all aspects of our organization. As a result of this focused attention on safety, we’re proud to share that Habitat for Humanity organizations across Canada recently won Silver in Canada’s Safest Employers awards, presented by Canadian Occupational Safety.

But when it comes to safety, there’s always more we can do. This year, our sponsors are introducing a new element to the safety program, which focuses on the safety of our Habitat homeowner families. This involves providing all new Habitat homeowner families with a fire safety kit complete with home fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector when they take possession of their new home, as well as educating them about the importance of having and practicing regularly a home safety escape plan.

First Alert, Enbridge and CSA Group have also created a video to educate families about the safety precautions they need to take in their homes to protect their families from fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
