Habitat for Humanity Homeownership: Opportunities Await Brampton Families

Townhome Units Available for Habitat Homeownership

TORONTO, December 9, 2021 – Habitat for Humanity GTA is looking for families who want to become Habitat homeowners at their newest community at 25 William St. in Brampton. This is an extraordinary opportunity for families facing challenges like unaffordable rent and/or difficult living conditions. The community is located in downtown Brampton and will feature beautiful, spacious three- and four-bedroom condo townhomes ideal for raising families.

The benefits of becoming a Habitat Homeowner include:

  • Zero down payment (families are required to cover closing costs)
  • No more paying rent – Habitat homeownership allows families to build equity instead
  • Manageable mortgage payment plans that ensure families have enough funds to cover their other living expenses and needs
  • Skills and community building opportunities through volunteering at a build site, retail store or corporate offices
  • Inclusion in a community of like-minded volunteers who make an impact in the lives of families across the GTA

“With real estate prices constantly going up, working families are finding it harder to own a home and get some stability in their lives,” said Seema Sarda, Senior Manager of Outreach and Homeownership for Habitat for Humanity GTA. “These are beautiful, brand-new homes near great amenities that are completely affordable for many working families.”

Special consideration is given to families living in unsafe, unhealthy, inadequate housing or facing unaffordable rent. Applicants must also have a willingness to partner with Habitat GTA and complete volunteer hours. In order to apply to be a Habitat Homeowner, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Potential applicants must be families with at least one child under the age of 16 years at the time of application
  • All household members in Habitat homes must be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • At least one of the applicants or co-applicants must be employed full-time or full-time-equivalent.
  • Applicant and/or co-applicant must have at least 3 years of employment history in Canada.
  • Applicant and co-applicant must be first-time homebuyers currently living in rental housing.
  • No bankruptcies or current consumer proposals (must have been discharged three or more years ago).
  • Willing to contribute 500 volunteer hours either towards the construction of homes or a variety of other Habitat projects and initiatives.

Families interested in applying to be Habitat Homeowners are encouraged to complete the questionnaire on Habitat GTA’s website.
