HELP BUILD HOMES

Our Habitat homes are truly community builds. They are constructed almost entirely by caring volunteers, with the support of dedicated, skilled Habitat for Humanity GTA staff.

Would you like to see a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live? Is flexibility in your schedule important to you? Do you have an interest in helping to build homes?

Whether you are a contractor or have never picked up a hammer in your life, we can use your help all year round.

VOLUNTEER CREW LEADER

With so much happening at a construction site at any time, it’s vital to ensure everyone knows what they’re doing, and safely. Volunteer groups come out to build sites with enthusiasm and energy. They put on their hard hats and get ready to build. All they need is a Crew Leader to guide and train them before the insulation starts going in.

Habitat for Humanity GTA is looking for volunteer Crew Leaders to help at our build sites in Toronto, Oshawa and Brampton. What you need to know about becoming a Crew Leader:

  • Building experience not required: You don’t need prior construction experience to volunteer, but if you’ve volunteered at Habitat GTA build sites before, you’re already off to a strong start
  • Onsite Training: Our skilled Site Supervisor provides onsite instruction
  • Safety First: We provide all the necessary Personal Protective Equipment for volunteers
  • After getting to know the build site and the team, you progress to overseeing a small team of up to five volunteers with varying degrees of construction skills
  • Year-Round Building: We’re on the construction site 12 months a year, Monday to Friday, from 8AM to 4PM. Shifts are self-scheduled via online registration
  • Time Commitment: We ask for a commitment of two shifts per month as part of the volunteer Crew Leader program

Want to try something new and get your hands dirty? Or maybe you’ve got construction experience and are ready to give back? Crew Leadership could be for you.

Why should I be a volunteer Crew Leader?

  • Hands-On Experience: Gain practical construction experience
  • Share your knowledge: Inspire and train other volunteers
  • Networking: Connect with new like-minded people and community partners
  • Community Impact: Help build affordable homes for local families and change lives for parents and kids who need our support

How do I get started?
