Pinery Trail Welcome Home Ceremony

Group Photo at Pinery Trails

We are proud to commemorate the completion of our 50-home Pinery Trail community. This is the largest build in Habitat for Humanity GTA’s three-decade history, and the largest Habitat build in Ontario. On December 11th, we dedicated keys to the final 12 families and celebrated the rich history of the project alongside volunteers, donors, and community partners who made it all possible.

Speakers at the Event

“We all know there is a housing problem in the country, not just in the city. So to be in a position to create an entry point for thousands of donors and volunteers is really critical work and we are so delighted to support it. There is no greater equalizer than homeownership. That’s really why at the end of the day the Toronto Foundation wanted to be a part of this project, and support the build through the Foundation’s first-ever social impact investment.” Sharon Avery, President & CEO of Toronto Foundation

“In Toronto City Council’s new housing plan there is financial support to assist an additional 4,000 homeowners who can purchase future Habitat homes. What you have started here today, we are committed to continuing to do.” Sean Gadon, Director, Affordable Housing Office, City of Toronto

“Since 2017, TD employees across the GTA have been very involved in Habitat builds. This year alone, 214 employees have helped build 27 homes! We are thrilled about the potential work we can do with Habitat for Humanity & the potential to truly change lives.” Naki Osutei, AVP Social Impact Canada, TD

“Seeing the Pinery Trail Build transform from an empty block is so rewarding. As a donor, we are drawn to Habitat because it is a hand up. The families can be proud that they are paying for their own homes. I wish the families health & happiness in their new homes.” Susan Hawkins

“Welcome home everyone – you are a shining example of what community is all about!” Councillor Cynthia Lai, City of Toronto, Ward 23 – Scarborough

“This milestone is made possible thanks to 10,000+ volunteers who devoted 162,000+ hours building at the Pinery Trail Build. This block has 119,000 bricks & over 500 donors who made it possible. Your support creates a ripple that is felt for generations.” Lorraine Huinink, Board Member, Habitat for Humanity GTA

“I worked side by side with my now neighbours, which has created a bond moving forward. I know their kids, they know mine. Their life experiences have taught me lessons and vice versa. I feel safe that if I am not around, my kids will have people they can reach out to. If I can’t see something happening, that my fellow neighbours will ensure my kids and home are okay.”  Dionne Carter, Habitat Partner Family

Since we broke ground at Pinery Trail in 2016, these are the stats behind the 50-home community that was built.
